Creativity and Recognition

Early this year, while I was searching more information about right brain I found this video where Daniel Pink shares an interesting tip: Exercise Creativity at Your Job!

Daniel Pink: Exercise Creativity at Your Job

The video is very short but it had a huge impact on me because it motivated me to review all the creative projects I did in my career and also think in new creative projects to do at my current job. As usual, I started doing brainstorming with mindmaps but sometimes great ideas come when you don’t expect them! Over a meeting with stakeholders I had a great one, I mean, I found a creative way to fulfill what stakeholders need.

So I worked like the dickens a couple of weeks to develop a proof of concept and a month later I finished the version 1.0. When this project went to production users found it useful and new users where interested with new needs!

That was great but I felt nobody recognize my effort. My boss told me to wait and understand that sometimes recognition delays a little bit because other factors but it will come.

And it came!!!! The last Tuesday managers recognized my effort and motivated me to try new things. It’s awesome because you feel confident to take more steps, creative steps!

Acknowledgment: If Luis Blanco a.k.a. Lucho (my boss) didn’t take the decision to try new things, it will be complicated to be creative and motivated at job, thanks a lot!
